March 2013
Feb 25th I headed to Florida and arrived on the 26th for my annual visit with Aunt Ev, Rascal dog,
family & friends. Cousin Steve took
a day off from managing 76 Golf World to meet me at the airport and deliver me
to Aunt Ev who was at the St Lucie County Fair at Fort Pierce. We
were both glad to see each other & Rascal
gave me a warm welcome as well.
He is a 2 year old miniature version of Opal with the energy of a
Tasmanian Devil.
The fair closed Sunday evening and we
returned to Stuart on Monday. The
weather was much cooler than normal so there was not much interest in Ice Cream
or Daiquiri’s. Their whole season has
been like that. Hard to make a living
when the weather doesn’t cooperate!
In Stuart, Ev had appointments about
every other day. To say she doesn’t sit still long is putting it mildly! One day
she had two appointments at the same time.
She went to one and I went to the other. We had several luncheons, an Education Foundation fund raiser auction, a Red Hat luncheon, Cocoanut Point Yacht Club
commodore’s ball, Ev’s youngest sister Barb’s
Birthday, and Easter dinner. I believe I
have gained 10 pounds in the time I was there!!
It took me several trips to different
stores (& sometimes for the same article because I had bought the wrong
thing!) to gather supplies needed back in Baja for friends. Eventually I had everything in hand.
PLUS, I had to buy a new computer and
printer. It has Window 8 which I thought
would be OK. That is until I tried to
open my spreadsheets and they were not compatible!! I was extremely annoyed but finally calmed
down and remembered to call my computer technician that I bought the laptop
from & who has remote access to it. AND now I have to learn where all the
commands are. Fortunately son Wayne is
studying Excel so I’m hoping he can teach his mother a few tricks.
I
finished a fun quilt while I was there, knitted several dish cloths, and read a
couple books. My favorite room is at the
south end of the house with a view of the bay.
It has double sliding patio windows on two sides of the corner of the room. I like to sit there sewing, knitting, or
drinking my morning coffee and watching the boats come & go. Sometimes Dolphin (who wouldn’t slow down
long enough to have their picture taken) or Manatee will come up close to the
bank below the patio.
Like all good things the time went very
quickly and I had to start packing. I
had mailed a box of clothes from Washington in January. The box I mailed back was twice as large! Wonder why that was. Maybe I bought too many new things? Eventually all was taken care of and I again
was on the way to the airport for the return flight to Baja. Opal was very glad to see me as I was her. At least til I gave her a bath and trimmed
her nose!
There is hardly anyone left on the
beach. We are the last of the long term
ones left. I think there are about 3
other camps consisting of temporary campers coming up from the south on their
way home. We will move over to the RV
park by our little mini mart store about the end of the week. At least that’s the plan today.
Now to get ready for Loreto Fest (our
yacht club fund raiser).
Safe Travels to All, Patty.
